The Crystal Reports 8.5: Introductory Report Design Curriculum introduces the student to the purpose and features of Crystal Reports. It teaches the basics of designing reports, record selection, record grouping and sorting, formatting reports, and distributing reports. Students will learn to create and distribute a simple report, and will be working with formulas, linking reports, working with Cross-tabs, formatting sections, creating charts, and creating geographical maps. After completing this curriculum, learners will be able to use some of the advanced Crystal Reports tools to create more interactive and visually appealing reports. This curriculum consists of two Skill Builder courses:- Course 13889 Crystal Reports 8.5: Introductory Report Design Part 1
- Course 13890 Crystal Reports 8.5: Introductory Report Design Part 2
Audience
The audience for this curriculum includes End Users, and Database Administrators. Students should have prerequisite knowledge of database concepts, including tables, fields, and records.

Course Overview
This is the first course in a two part series that introduces the student to the purpose and features of Crystal Reports. It teaches the basics of designing reports, record selection, record grouping and sorting, formatting reports, and distributing reports. Students will learn to create and distribute a simple report.

Unit 1: Crystal Reports: Fundamentals 2 - 3 hours
• Match the features of Crystal Reports with the situations in which the features can be used.
• Create a blank report by using the menu bar.
• Match the types of reports with the situations in which the reports can be used.
• Create reports by using Report Expert.
• Insert a field in a report by using the Field Explorer dialog box.
• Format an object in a specific way by using the menu bar.
• Combine fields in a text object by using the Field Explorer dialog box.
• Import text from a file into a text object by using the shortcut menu.
Unit 2: Records: Manipulation 2 - 3 hours
• Create a record selection by using the menu bar.
• Modify a record selection formula by using the menu bar.
• Sort records in a report by using the menu bar.
• Group records in a report by using the menu bar.
• Modify a record group by using the menu bar.
• Summarize a record group by using the menu bar.
• Insert a running total field in a report by using the menu bar.
Unit 3: Reports: Presentation and Distribution 2 hours
• Format a record field by using the menu bar.
• Format a paragraph in a report by using the menu bar.
• Insert special fields in a report by using the menu bar.
• Insert a box in a report by using the menu bar.
• Insert a picture in a report by using the menu bar.
• Export a report to an application by using the menu bar.
• Export a report to an ODBC data source by using the Export dialog box.
• Send a report to an e-mail recipient by using the Export dialog box.
13890 - Crystal Reports 8.5: Introductory Report Design Part 2
Course Overview
This is the second course in a two part series that builds on the information taught in the first course, Crystal Reports 8.5: Introductory Report Design Part 1 (13889). Learners will be working with formulas, linking reports, working with Cross-tabs, formatting sections, creating charts, and creating geographical maps. After completing this course, learners will be able to use some of the advanced Crystal Reports tools to create more interactive and visually appealing reports.
Learn To
• Identify the types of formulas and functions that are used in building reports and creating links.
• Insert and format sections in a report.
• Insert and customize cross-tab objects.
• Identify the procedures for creating maps and using Map Analyzer to zoom, order map layers, and resolve data mismatches.
• Identify how to use charts in reports.

Unit 2: Sections and Cross-Tab Objects 2 - 3 hours
• Insert a section in a report by using the Insert menu.
• Identify the properties used to format a section according to specific requirements.
• Create a cross-tab object in a report by using the Insert menu.
• Identify the options used to customize a cross-tab object according to specific requirements.
Unit 3: Maps and Charts 2 hours
• Match the types of maps with the situations in which they are most appropriate.
• Create a map by using the Map Expert dialog box.
• Arrange the layers in a map in the specified order by using the Layer Control dialog box.
• Resolve data mismatches by using the Map Region Resolver dialog box.
• Match the types of charts with the situations in which they are used.
• Create a chart by using the Chart Expert dialog box.
• Identify the chart-formatting tab that is used to meet a specified requirement.
