Course Overview
This course covers the characteristics of quality, addresses the key issues of quality management, and describes the contributions of quality management pioneers Deming, Juran, and Crosby. This program also covers quality planning issues and techniques. In addition, you will learn how to perform specific planning activities that will positively impact project quality, as well as how to use checklists when performing quality management. In addition, this course covers the specific conditions used to facilitate a credible audit, the proper credentials for an auditor, as well as what information a project audit should contain. Finally, this course includes information on maintaining quality control of a project by establishing a quality control system.

Unit 1: Quality Overview 0.5 - 1 hour
• List the components of quality management.
• Select the characteristics of quality.
• Identify seven quality management directives to incorporate into a project.
• Identify four vital quality management issues.
• Identify the contributions of Deming, Juran, and Crosby.
• Simulation Overview: You are a junior project manager at Icon International. A quality audit is scheduled to take place in your department in the near future. You report to senior project manager, Donald King. Donald is anxious that you'll perform well at the audit so he's arranged a meeting with you to prepare you for some questions you might be asked.
Unit 2: Quality Planning 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify the six key criteria used during quality planning.
• Identify the quality planning issues included in the initial planning of a project.
• Sequence the steps used to plan activities to ensure project quality.
• Identify procurement issues affecting quality planning.
• Identify five quality planning techniques.
• Identify the techniques used to verify whether production processes or materials conform to a project's quality standards.
• Identify characteristics of a good quality management plan.
• Simulation Overview: You are a project manager at Icon International. The company intends to send some employees to a seminar about quality planning. Your manager, Julie Carr is meeting with you today to gauge your level of knowledge about quality planning. Based on your level of knowledge, she will decide whether to recommend you for this seminar or not.
Unit 3: Quality Assurance 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify the goal of quality assurance.
• Identify the outcomes of effective quality assurance.
• Select the conditions that must be met to conduct a credible audit.
• Identify the project auditor's responsibilities.
• Identify how timing affects an audit's focus.
• Identify the cause of each category of cost associated with quality assurance.
• Identify the effects of non-quality work.
• Select the areas of a project that can be altered to reduce cost.
• Simulation Overview: You are a project manager at Icon International. Icon wants to send some employees on a quality management course to train them on conducting internal quality audits. You are interested in becoming involved in quality auditing and have arranged a meeting with Rosa Gonzalez, a Human Resources Executive. Rosa will be assessing your knowledge and understanding of quality management and quality auditing and will recommend you for this course if you perform well at this meeting.
Unit 4: Quality Control 0.5 - 1 hour
• Differentiate between quality control and quality assurance.
• Identify characteristics of a good quality control system.
• Identify issues to consider when developing a quality control system.
• Define key quality control concepts.
• Identify basic statistical terms in quality control.
• Simulation Overview: You are a junior project manager in Icon International. There have been some quality control issues in your department recently. Your boss, Donald King, Senior Project Manager, is concerned about these issues. He wants to make sure that all junior PMs in his department are up to speed on quality control. He is meeting with you today to evaluate your understanding of statistical terms and quality control tools and their application.
