Course Description

This curriculum maps to the Microsoft Office Specialist certification objectives for the Access 2003 Specialist exam. It presents the learner with the fundamentals of Microsoft Access 2003. The student learns how to create tables and relationships, how to manipulate tables, and how to create simple and advanced queries. The curriculum teaches how to create forms and reports and how to format controls on both forms and reports, and the student is also introduced to importing and exporting data to and from Access.

This curriculum consists of two Skill Builder courses:

  • Microsoft Access 2003 Proficient User


75050 - Microsoft Access 2003 Fundamentals

Course Overview This course, along with course 75051, maps to the Microsoft Office Specialist certification objectives for the Access 2003 Specialist exam. It presents the learner with the fundamentals of Microsoft Access 2003. The student learns how to create tables and relationships, how to manipulate tables, and how to create simple and advanced queries.

• Identify options on the Formatting (Datasheet) toolbar.
• Sort records in a table.
• Filter records by selection.
• Identify the options for navigating records.
• Identify table field properties.


Unit 3: Querying Data 1 - 1.5 hours
• Identify options in the Simple Query Wizard.
• Identify elements in Select Query Design view.
• Apply an aggregate function to a query.
• Identify components of a calculated field.
• Identify options in the Crosstab Query Wizard.
• Identify options in the Find Unmatched Query Wizard.
• Create a multiple-table query.
• Identify options in the Find Duplicates Query Wizard.


75051 - Microsoft Access 2003 Proficient User

Course Overview
This course, along with course 75050, maps to the Microsoft Office Specialist certification objectives for the Access 2003 Specialist exam. Assuming knowledge of the fundamentals, it teaches how to create forms and reports and how to format controls on both forms and reports. The student is also introduced to importing and exporting data to and from Access. Finally, this course teaches about backing up and compacting and repairing databases.

• To identify AutoForms in the New Form dialog box.
• To identify elements of a PivotChart.
• To identify options in the Report Wizard.
• To identify options in the Page Wizard.
• To set the sort order for a report.
• To publish a table to Excel.

• Identify methods of manipulating report controls.


Unit 3: Database Integration and Tools 1 hour
• Publish a table to Excel.
• Identify options in the Import Spreadsheet Wizard.
• Back up a database.
• Compact and repair a database.
• Identify features of object dependencies.
• Identify options in the Documenter dialog box.
