Course Overview
Essentials of Business Law: Employment Law offers the student an overview of employment law essentials. This program identifies the elements of agent and principal relationships, the duties of agents and principals, and ways in which agreements between these two parties are ratified. The program also identifies fair labor laws and labor and management issues, including actions that constitute wrongful discharge and a violation of employee rights. In addition, the program covers anti-discrimination legislation and defines which actions violate these laws. The program also includes ways for employers to deal with claims of discrimination as well as methods to prevent discriminatory actions from occurring.

Simulation Overview:
In this simulation, you will meet with Kent Redburn, a relatively new Customer Service Representative for Icon. As Kents immediate supervisor, you are meeting with him today to try to orient him into his new role in the company. The two of you will discuss Kents responsibilities as an agent and your responsibilities as his principal.
Unit 2: Employment Laws 0.5 - 1 hour
Identify the provisions of wage and hour laws
Identify the components of an implied contract
Address employee questions regarding workplace privacy rights
Identify whistleblower statutes
Simulation Overview:
In this simulation, you will meet with Ronald Spear, one of Icons human resource managers, to discuss employment laws. In order to increase your understanding of workplace privacy rights and the components of wrongful discharge, Ron will be presenting a series of scenarios for you to evaluate. These scenarios will cover a wide range of topics, from employment regulations to labor and management issues, and they will test your ability to make the correct decision when placed in a complex situation.

Simulation Overview:
In this simulation, you will meet with Susan Darnell, a marketing assistant, to discuss the possibility of her filing a discrimination claim against her manager, Aidan Williamson. During Susans employment with Icon, the two of you have forged a strong working relationship, and she has come to you today because she feels that you can be trusted. As an employment lawyer outside of Icon, you know what constitutes discrimination, so Susan will need you to walk her through the process of determining whether she was discriminated against, and what actions to take if she decides to file a claim against her manager.
